Another one from the I-can't-remember-what-it-tastes-like department is
Delirium Tremens, famed for its pink elephant heraldry and speckled faux-stone bottle. What you get is a golden ale of subtle complexity, carrying spice and sherbet along with a grainy dryness. If you cross a heavy Trappist
tripel with a prickly Brussels geuze you get something frivilous and fun like this.

ReplyDeleteWell said! I had either 4 or 5 and have no recollection of it except that I had it. Funny enough I suffered from the "DT's" much of the next morning.
BTW, I am sure the marketing department ran away with the slogan "Best Beer in the World". Who wouldn't? but I believe it was named as "Best Beer in the World" in 1998 at the World Beer Championships in Chicago, Illinois, USA.
I was a tireless trier of new beers long before I started writing this blog, so every now and then I'll go back to re-taste and write-up something I've had years previously but have since forgotten the taste.
ReplyDeleteBeer awards, in general, are bullshit. Being named best in the world one year seems to just mean it's drinkable, rather than any real relative merit. My esteemed colleague Alan did a good piece on it recently, with some interesting comments.
Frankly, I'd trust the likes of RateBeer more than formal awards, and that's really not saying much.
